ROLL CALL

This is a partial list of Jews who saw military or related service. Among a minority of Loyalists (some families were split) some left the country and at least one was killed locally. The following are the Patriots who served.

The American invaders of Canada in 1775 were aided by Levy Solomons, a Montreal merchant. After the failure of the invasion, the British punished Solomons on July 4,1776, by evicting him and throwing his household possessions into the street.

David Emanuel - captured by the British at McBeans Creek in Georgia. Escaped, went on to become first governor of Georgia.

David Hays, Jacob Hays, Jacob Henry, David Judah, Dr. Nathan Levy

Asser Levy - One hundred and twenty years before the Continental Congress his ancestor overturned a New Amsterdam law forbidding Jews to stand guard. The grandson, many times removed, carries on the family tradition of service to country.
